get curious, be auroral

aurora in ART

What is the point of art? Why do we laboriously 'appreciate' it? What is there to appreciate it?

I always think about these questions, but I like to leave the answer open in my mind. Will I ever come up with a tick the box definition to these? No, I probably won't, but that's because  I find that asking these questions in the first place, you're already half way there in defining them. There is no million dollar answer to these questions, it's how individually we react and respond to them, and I guess that that is sort of what art is, an individual's response to a matter, event, thought, idea, anything through a creative, visual means.

Obviously, that is by no means the Oxford dictionary definition of art, it's just what art means to me, and why I find it absolutely fascinating. The works I have selected are the art works that drew me in with a great force into the unpredictable world of art, and I hope that they light some form of spark within you as well, as they are really quite incredible. I have also put the song you should listen to whilst viewing, makes it more of an experience.

Each week I will write an individual post about each of these works, why I like them, why you will like them, and why I chose the song listed next to it.

In the meantime, look through each art work, decide which ones you like, which ones you don't like and think about why that is; what attracts you/detracts you from art? Listen with and without the music, how does it work with the painting?
