'A film is- or should be- more like music than fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what's behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later' was wisely stated by Stanley Kubrick, and I could not agree more. People don't go into a cinema or sit down to watch a film with the prejudice of the capital A of art, it seems more of an organic, untainted experience, you're not thinking about where the sfumato is just so you can say 'How Da Vinci'.
Here are 4 of my favourite films that I think you should definitely watch, soon.
1) THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS- WES ANDERSON
IYL: Any other Wes Anderson films, it's like a cooler, quirkier, more thought provoking Cheaper by the Dozen
2) AMERICAN BEAUTY- SAM MENDES
IYL: Lolita, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut, Mulholland Dr., American Psycho
3)THE GRADUATE- MIKE NICHOLS
IYL: Kramers vs Kramer, Manhattan, Paper Moon, Midnight Cowboy, The Apartment
4) HICK- DERICK MARTINI
IYL: Little Birds, Dirty Girl, Ginger and Rosa
